Does Toner Come with My Drum Unit or Imaging Unit?

The toner cartridge and drum unit are two different parts. The toner cartridge contains powder or toner used for creating letters and images. You will need to replace the toner cartridge when the toner is running low or the print quality deteriorates because toner quality has gone down. The drum unit or imaging unit (depending upon the machine you have) perform similar functions. The drum unit transfers the toner to the paper. The laser printer places the toner on the roller called the photosensitive drum inside the drum unit and then prints letters and images by fixing toner to the paper via heat and pressure.

In order to have great print quality, the copy machine will automatically detect if the drum unit has deterioriated in quality. It will offer you a message such as “replace drum,” when you need to replace the drum unit. You can replace the drum or imaging unit without refilling toner. However, it is advisable to restock both supplies as you can easily run out of toner and you will not be able to print or copy documents with good quality without enough high quality toner.
